1. The proposal to start a new college in Paratwada was first discussed in a meeting of Bharatiya Vidyamandir Amravati a society organised by the educationists. It was felt that a new Arts and Commerce College was needed in the area as there was necessity for tribal students.


2. Arts and Commerce college was established in the year 1969, and then it was affiliated to Nagpur University. The naming ceremony of Arts and Commerce as Bhagawantrao Shivaji Patil Mahavidyalaya was performed at the hands of Hon'bl Shri. Vasantrao Naik, Chief Minister of Maharashtra in 1970. Getting the affiliation of the University was a difficult task. The management had to face and surpass many obstacles.


3. The medium of instruction was Marathi. But we have started separate English medium undergraduate class on the demands of the learners in commerce. We presently offer P.G.courses in Arts and Commerce,Certificate Course in Rural Handicrafts besides regular Arts and Commerce.


4. The Management of the college is aware of its social responsibilities. In the present Governing Council the president Dr. Rameshrao Bijawe and General Secretary ADV.Yeduraj Metkar are basically educationists. Shri Babanrao Metkar Ex MLA, Shri M.G.Dhote ex Principal Dhanwate National College, Shri Annasaheb Vaidya, Shri Babasaheb Somwanshi Ex-MLC,Shri G.S.Vaidya Ex-Principal Bharatiya Mahavidyalaya, Amravati, Shri Babasaheb Patil Ex-MP,MLA have contributed a lot for the development of this college.


5. Our college runs Junior and MCVC wings along with UG and PG courses. We have definite aims and objectives. One of the main objectives is to educate people who belong to poor families in rural and tribal areas of Melghat.


6. Most of the parents in Melghat could not offer to send their children to distant places for higher education. Paratwada offers plethora of government and semi-government hostels. We have started ladies hostel. In such a favorable condition the students of Melghat are expected to develop their career in our college.


7. Thus our college is a great blessing for these disadvantaged learners. During the last 53 years the college has grown both qualitatively and quantitatively. NAAC has assessed the college in Feb 2004 and 2015 accreditation with B grade. Several curricular and extra-curricular activities sharpen our students and convert them in good citizens. We being ‘Perfection Hungry’ we believe in quality and excellence.
